History

The cimbalom was perfected in concert form in Hungary as early as the 1880s. Its creator was Václav Josef Schunda. In 1874 he created a fixed pedal system. This revolutionary act began the era of using the cimbalom as a concert instrument.

The successor and later competitor of the Schunda company became the Bohák company in 1900. Its founder, Lajos Bohák, was born on 6 August 1870 in the village of Kvetna in Slovakia.

Between 1956 and 1992, large cimbaloms were imported to Czechoslovakia mostly from Hungary. It was not until the beginning of the 1990s that production was renewed, when our company HOLAK was founded.
